Top 10: Things for Spring

clean windowsRain, rain and more rain. Thank goodness spring is almost here. I think we are all ready for more bird chirping and less rain dripping. With spring approaching there’s sure to be many more houses hitting the market. If you are thinking of getting your home ready to sell this spring, or even if you’re not, here are some good tips to whip your home into shape–Cara in the House style!

1. Clean your windows. The minute you get a blast of sunshine through your windows every streak, stain and fingerprint is going to be as noticeable as a red wine spill on a white carpet.

2. Pressure wash your driveway or patio. It’s like getting your teeth whitened – it really brightens things up.

3. Mow your lawn. You only have a few months before it turns brown so show it off while you can.

4. Clean out your garage. You don’t need 7 sets of skis, a set of tires from your 1994 Honda Civic or any boxes you haven’t opened in the last decade. You really don’t.

5. Replace any missing fence boards. It’s annoying. If you don’t have a fence you can help your neighbor who does.

6. Clean your roof. There’s a do-it-yourself method or a hire-a-company-to-do-it method. Either one works.

7. Change the batteries in your smoke detectors. Trust me, you’ll want to be proactive on this one unless you like being woken up in the middle of the night by incessant beeping.

8. Put on your big boy pants (or your big girl pants) and go down to your crawlspace. You need to see if any creatures made themselves at home in your home over the winter. You will save yourself a lot of money if you keep an eye on your crawlspace. Plus I don’t know one person that likes rats. If you don’t have a crawlspace, well, lucky you.

9. Change your furnace filter. Easy and cheap. The opposite of hard and expensive which is what will happen if your furnace croaks.

10. Clean your gutters. If you find a whiffle ball or tennis ball you are most likely my neighbor.

Now go! Get out there and do at least one item on this list. You’ll feel better, your house will feel better and if you are selling, the new buyer will feel better. And if you need a real estate broker, call me and I will feel better.
